AEM 22 Channel CAN Expander Module

AEM 22 Channel CAN Expander Module

AEM’s 22 Channel CAN Sensor Module (PN 30-2212) converts analog, digital and frequency inputs into an AEMnet CAN bus signal that can be transmitted to the CD-5 Carbon (releasing March, 2018) and CD-7 Digital Dashes. This expansion module provides a way for users with carbureted vehicles to add a CD Dash, and lets users with existing CAN-based devices add more channels to the display for viewing and/or data logging (data logging requires CD-5L Carbon or CD-7L logging Dashes). The 22-Channel CAN Sensor Module is compatible with the CD Dashes only; it will run in parallel with 3rd party CAN devices on the CD dashes but it is currently not compatible with AEM’s AQ-1 Data Logger, Series 2 or Infinity ECUs, or 3rd party ECUs or loggers.

 

FOR CARBURETED VEHICLES

The 22 Channel CAN Sensor Module has everything that users need to get data onto the Dash in a carbureted vehicle, including tachometer and fuel level, wheel speeds for MPH, and pressure/temp sensors. Users can daisy-chain two of the Modules together, which is ideal for enthusiasts who have a logging CD Dash and want to expand their logging capabilities.

 

FOR CAN-BASED EFI USERS

Racers who are using a CAN-based programmable ECU and have consumed all of the inputs in the ECUs now have a way to add more channels to a CD Dash without having to purchase multiple CAN-based devices.

 

WHAT YOU GET

The 22 Channel CAN Sensor Module includes four 0-5v analog inputs, four Temp inputs, four user configurable inputs for 0-5v, Temp or RTD, dedicated fuel level input, six digital inputs for switched or duty cycle, Tach input and two VR inputs for crank, wheel or driveshaft speeds. A harness is included with pre-pinned, 36-inch color-coded wires to connect inputs, and a DTM-style AEMnet cable to connect to a CD-5 Carbon or CD-7 Dash. Users can select the CAN speed delivery rate.

AEM 4 Port AEMnet CAN Hub

AEM’s 4 Port AEMnet CAN Hub is the perfect solution for connecting multiple AEMnet CAN bus-enabled devices together. This convenient Module provides a central docking station for four AEMnet cables via 4-way DTM-style housings and can provide power to all of the connected devices on the Hub through a single port (3A max current capacity – NOT for use to power UEGO sensor heaters). Users can daisy-chain two 4 Port AEMnet CAN Hubs together for a total of 6 connected devices.

AEMnet buses must be properly terminated using termination resistors on each end of the port (120 Ohms each, see Specs tab for AEM Devices with termination resistors). AEM offers DTM-style 4-pin termination plugs that simplify this process if you have a device that does not have an integrated or selectable termination resistor.

The 4 Port CAN hub is IP67-rated and can be installed in the engine compartment. Mounting hardware and instructions are included.

POWERING DEVICES THROUGH THE 4 PORT AEMNET CAN HUB:

All 4 Port AEMnet Hub ports have the same pinout, so power and ground is only necessary on one port when powering devices through the Hub. IMPORTANT: The Hub has a max current capacity of 3A (do NOT attempt to distribute UEGO sensor heater power through the Hub).

PROPER BUS TERMINATION:

AEMnet buses must be properly terminated for proper operation. The termination resistors are 120 Ohms each and must be located at the physical ends of the bus wires (two total). Please refer below for Termination Resistor availability by AEMnet-enabled device:

Carbureted Vehicles - The 6 Channel CAN Sensor Module provides the basic channels that users need to get data onto a CD Carbon Digital Dash in a carbureted vehicle, including tachometer, fuel level, and pressure/temp sensors. Vehicle speed can be achieved by using a GPS-enabled dash or by adding a Vehicle Dynamics Module.

08-Up Stock/Reflashed ECUs – This module is the perfect add-on for CD Carbon Dash owners who are sending channels to a CD Carbon Dash from an OBDII CAN stock ECU and want to add additional channels that are not available through the factory CAN stream.

Standalone CAN-based EFI – Racers who are using a non-AEM CAN-based programmable ECU and have consumed all of the inputs can use this module to add additional channels to the dash that they want to see or log (logging requires CD Carbon Logging Dash).

WHAT YOU GET
The 6 Channel CAN Sensor Module includes two 0-5v analog inputs, two temp inputs, RPM input, and fuel level input. The enclosure is IP67-rated and the unit is dustproof/water-resistant. A 12-Pin DTM-style connector and pins are included. Please see the Features tab for more info.

AEM 8 Channel K-Type EGT CAN Module

AEM's 8-Channel K-Type Thermocouple EGT CAN Module (PN 30-2224) allows racers and enthusiasts to install eight K-type thermocouple sensors onto their vehicle and transmit all 8 temp channels to a CD Carbon Digital Dash or 3rd Party programmable CAN device via a one-plug CAN bus connection. It connects out of the box to AEM’s CD Digital Dashes and it can be configured to send data to virtually any CAN-based receiving device that has programmable CAN bus capability!

The 8-Channel K-Type EGT CAN Module includes eight K-type thermocouple inputs that use miniature K-type connectors. It accepts up to eight K-type thermocouple sensors (PN 30-2068, sold separately in 1-, 2- and 4-packs) which can be used for viewing and logging various temperatures including exhaust gas temps (EGTs), cylinder head temps, pre and post intercooler temps, air temps, water temps, fluid temps, disc brake temps and more. The 8-Channel K-Type EGT CAN Module can be daisy chained to a second module allowing users to receive up to 16 temperature channels through the same CAN bus connection!

HIGHLY ACCURATE AND INTELLIGENT

The 8-Channel K-Type EGT CAN Module uses an integrated cold junction sensor to ensure lab-grade temperature readings across all eight channels. It has the ability to read better than 1% full scale, even at the extremes of the temperature range (-200 to 1372 degC/-328 to 2501 degF). The Module also includes open circuit/fault detection to notify you if a sensor loses its connection and/or needs to be replaced.

WORKS WITH NON-AEM DEVICES WITH CONFIGURABLE CAN BUS!

The Module utilizes flexible CAN configuration jumpers which allow it to be used with just about any 3rd party devices that have a configurable CAN bus. Selectable parameters include CAN bus speeds (250k, 500k, 1M), selectable header length (11- or 29-bit) and selectable base address, which allows two units to be daisy-chained together on the same bus.

Power is supplied from the 4-pin DTM connector when paired with a CD-5 Carbon or CD-7 Digital Dash, but may require wiring to a power source on 3rdparty devices that do not provide power from the connected CAN device. AEM provides 4-way DTM-style connector plug in the kit to simplify the connection to non-AEM devices). AEMnet CAN bus extension cables are available separately in 2, 5- and 10-foot lengths.

The AQ-1 Data Logger includes three switched/digital inputs, four 0-5 V analog inputs with optional pullup resistor for RTD/Thermistor-style sensors, four additional analog inputs that can optionally be used to measure RPM or other frequency-based signals, and AEMnet (a high speed communications network that links enabled AEM products together) capability for direct connection to a 4-Channel UEGO controller, AEM Series2 EMS or other future AEMnet enabled devices.

AEM offers a flying lead harness AQ-1 Data Logger with a weather-proof connector and labeled wires for easy installation (sold separately). Its compact size makes it easy to install (4.80” x 4.55” x 1.44”), and its rugged enclosure features a weather resistant dust cover for added durability.

AEM  Tru-Boost Gauge 75 PSIa or 5 Bar Map Sensor Upgrade

The TRU-BOOST boost controller gauge includes an on-board 29 PSIg pressure sensor, built-in overboost protection with two timed shutdown levels, a scramble boost setting and a low-side output for a warning light. A 75 PSIa boost sensor for high boost applications is sold separately (please see TRU-BOOST 5 BAR Ugrade Kit).

AEM’s boost control solenoid is included with the TRU-BOOST controller gauge. It is specifically manufactured for automotive boost applications and will not corrode and stick from exposure to rich fuel mixtures or oil vapor. It is pressure tested to 100 psi and includes barbed fittings and -4 AN fittings to eliminate any chance of leaks.

Absolute (PSIa) Pressure Sensors
AEM offers high quality stainless steel PSIa sensors in 15 (1BAR), 30 (2BAR), 50 (3.5BAR), and 75 (5BAR). PSIa is referenced to absolute zero. Absolute zero is the pressure measurement when all the pressure exerted by the atmosphere has been removed. The most common use for absolute pressure sensors is reading manifold pressure. PSIa sensors are required of you wish to measure vacuum. A PSIa sensor will read about 14.7 PSI when the sensing element is exposed to atmospheric pressure at sea level however they can be recalibrated to read zero at atmospheric and a negative number at values less than atmospheric pressure.
